Brandon Brekke and EHS School Leadership

As part of an ongoing effort to systematize practices here at EHS, all teachers are now applying the following gradebook/Infinite Campus policy:

A “0” in the gradebook will be entered when assignments can no longer be submitted for credit. An “M” for “Missing” will be entered when an assignment has not been submitted, but can still be turned in for credit. An “M” will still calculate as a “0” until a new grade is entered by the teacher.

Costume masks may not cover your face.

No costume should promote drinking, drugs or unhealthy lifestyle choices or cause disruption to the learning environment.

Dress code applies:  No revealing clothing/costumes, No bare midriff, backs or exposed torsos.

Props can’t interfere with or disrupt normal school day activities and cannot represent or be types of weapons of any kind.

Please also be mindful of our students with allergies.  Many Halloween treats contain common allergens that can be harmful to students with allergies.

Is science your favorite subject? Are you not getting enough science from your teachers already?  Come to room E-315 THIS Thursday after school at 2:30 to become a part of the EHS Science Olympiad team. We compete against other schools across the nation in science related events including biology, engineering, physics, earth sciences, technology, astronomy, and more. Travel Opportunity

Are you Interested in international travel?  Do you love Greek mythology, philosophy, the Odyssey and the Iliad?  Ms. Gordon is planning a student trip to Greece this summer.  She will hold an informational meeting at Endless Travel in Downtown Evergreen on October 30. I’m Rebecca Venema, and I am a teacher at Evergreen High. Our school is coming together and organizing a fundraiser to support the families whose homes and lives have been devastated by Hurricane Michael. My mother was born and raised in Panama City Beach.  She and my father still live there.  My first year of teaching was in Panama City. This storm and the aftermath hits close to home for me, and because I can’t be there to help, I want to do anything I can to assist those in need.

Therefore, with the help of my awesome Evergreen community, EHS will be holding a silent auction and dance marathon on Saturday, November 10th! The silent auction will be in the small gym from 12-6pm, and the dance marathon will be in large gym from 2-7pm.

How can you help?

As a student, you can attend the dance marathon! All proceeds will go directly to a local Panama City charity that is working towards relief efforts. If you are a part of a club or sports team, get a local business or family to sponsor you. This means that they pay X amount of dollars for each hour that you and/or your group members stay dancing!

As a parent and member of the community, we are in need of silent auction items. If you are a business owner, or know someone who is, we would love any charitable donations you’re able to offer for the auction. This can be a gift basket with free services provided, or something of that nature. If you own a vacation home and are willing to donate a weekend or few days stay in your home, an experience would be a welcomed addition to the silent auction items.

Jeffco Serving Kids Clothing Drive

The Evergreen High School National Honors Society will be hosting a clothing drive from Monday, October 29th to Friday, November 2nd. The clothes they collect will go to Jeffco Serving Kids, which is an all-volunteer Jeffco philanthropy organization. Serving Kids provides new or nearly new clothing to preschool through high school Jeffco school children who are in need. In August alone, they filed 6,100 pieces of clothing for 278 kids, 82 of whom don’t have a home. Overall, they service 1,743 kids across Jeffco with clothes, allowing these students to be successful in the classroom.

Serving Kids has received many useful items, but not all donations are suitable for Jeffco students. They are looking for new or near-new clothing, especially undergarments, socks, jeans, leggings, and coats. They cannot take clothing with any sort of logo or references to siblings or “mom” or “dad”.

Clubs and Activities:

• Congratulations to our Marching Band for making it to state.  They will be traveling to Pueblo to compete on Monday, October 29th.  What a great accomplishment!

Athletics:

• Your Mountain Biking Cougars rode their lungs out at the State Championships last weekend down in Durango, finishing in 9th place as a team. We had 18 racers with everyone riding hard, so please give them a shout out when you see them. Some standout rides were Maddie Graham finishing in 13th for Sophomore Girls, Aidan Ruth taking 12th for JV Boys, Robbie Day finishing 7th for Varsity Boys, and Zach Footer taking 2nd for Sophomore Boys. 

• The Evergreen High School Varsity Poms Team took 1st place for their pom routine in the Top of the Hill Exhibition on Saturday, Oct. 20th. This is an exciting win for the team and their new coaches, Ashton Toler & Sophie Updike.

10/18 XC Regional top 20 results:
Girls: Lanie Szuch (7th) and Chloe Kusser (17th)
Boys: Colin Szuch (4th) and Oliver Barwell (17th)
Colin and Lanie both ran in the State Meet yesterday - results tba.

Volleyball had a busy and successful week beating Bear Creek, Littleton and D’Evelyn. Results from their home tournament on Saturday tba. Playoff dates and locations tbd.

Soccer fell to Holy Family in the first round of playoffs in Double overtime. They battled hard and have much to be proud of.

Thanks to all who came out the 2018 Mountain Bowl EHS vs Conifer Football game on Friday. Last home game will be next Friday Nov. 2nd  @6pm vs JFK

The first National Letter of Intent ceremony of the year is scheduled on Wednesday, November 14th.  Please notify the Athletics Department if your student plans to join this celebration. Guests are welcome to attend this ceremony during Advise in the EHS Auditorium, starting at 8am.
