Halloween

Halloween is fast approaching!  Please remember the following guidelines if you are planning on dressing up to celebrate Halloween at school.

Costume masks may not cover your face.

No costume should promote drinking, drugs or unhealthy lifestyle choices or cause disruption to the learning environment.

Dress code applies:  No revealing clothing/costumes, No bare midriff, backs or exposed torsos.

Props can’t interfere with or disrupt normal school day activities and cannot represent or be types of weapons of any kind.

Please also be mindful of our students with allergies.  Many Halloween treats contain common allergens that can be harmful to students with allergies.

Let’s make it a safe and fun day!

Fall Play

Meet two unforgettable families - the Sycamores, a slightly eccentric but happy NYC family and the Kirby's a decidedly stuffy, straight-laced Wall Street clan who collide over the possible engagement of their children.  You won't want to miss this classic 1930's screwball comedy where we learn that money isn't everything and happiness comes in a variety of packages.

Hurricane Michael Fundraiser

Hi Cougar Community,

I’m Rebecca Venema, and I am a teacher at Evergreen High. Our school is coming together and organizing a fundraiser to support the families whose homes and lives have been devastated by Hurricane Michael. My mother was born and raised in Panama City Beach.  She and my father still live there.  My first year of teaching was in Panama City. This storm and the aftermath hits close to home for me, and because I can’t be there to help, I want to do anything I can to assist those in need.

Therefore, with the help of my awesome Evergreen community, EHS will be holding a silent auction and dance marathon on Saturday, November 10th! The silent auction will be in the small gym from 12-6pm, and the dance marathon will be in large gym from 2-7pm.
Hurricane Dance Fundraiser

How can you help?

As a student, you can attend the dance marathon! All proceeds will go directly to a local Panama City charity that is working towards relief efforts. If you are a part of a club or sports team, get a local business or family to sponsor you. This means that they pay X amount of dollars for each hour that you and/or your group members stay dancing!

As a parent and member of the community, we are in need of silent auction items. If you are a business owner, or know someone who is, we would love any charitable donations you’re able to offer for the auction. This can be a gift basket with free services provided, or something of that nature. If you own a vacation home and are willing to donate a weekend or few days stay in your home, an experience would be a welcomed addition to the silent auction items.

Please contact me, Mrs. Venema, or Mr. Ramaker with any questions you have. We look forward to a fun and successful day of fundraising!

Youth Farm Stand

The Employability Skills class started the Youth Farm Stand in August.  They are set up near the front entrance of Evergreen High School every Friday afternoon by 2:00 pm and go until 5:00 pm. They will have a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables to offer each week through October. Organic pears and Gala apples will be available for a limited time. They also have a large variety of fruits and vegetables each week.  The students are working hard on life skills and would love for you to stop by, say hi, and buy some healthy treats!

Jeffco Serving Kids Clothing Drive

Many of us may not notice it, but sometimes all it takes is a moment to make a difference in someone’s life. A student may feel self-conscious and unable to concentrate on their school work if their clothes are worn down or the wrong size. Jeffco Serving Kids is working to solve this problem for kids across Jefferson Country.

The Evergreen High School National Honors Society will be hosting a clothing drive from Monday, October 29th to Friday, November 2nd. The clothes they collect will go to Jeffco Serving Kids, which is an all-volunteer Jeffco philanthropy organization. Serving Kids provides new or nearly new clothing to preschool through high school Jeffco school children who are in need. In August alone, they filed 6,100 pieces of clothing for 278 kids, 82 of whom don’t have a home. Overall, they service 1,743 kids across Jeffco with clothes, allowing these students to be successful in the classroom.

Serving Kids has received many useful items, but not all donations are suitable for Jeffco students. They are looking for new or near-new clothing, especially undergarments, socks, jeans, leggings, and coats. They cannot take clothing with any sort of logo or references to siblings or “mom” or “dad”.

There will be a collection bin outside the main office at the front of the school. Thank you and we look forward to your support!

Soles 4 Souls

Soles4 Souls is an international organization that collects shoes and clothing for the disadvantaged throughout the world.  The 42 million pounds of shoes and clothing that have been kept out of landfills have been distributed to 127 countries and all 50 states in the United States during times of disaster!

The Evergreen High School Key Club is collecting new or gently used shoes to help Soles 4 Souls.  Please donate any type of shoe, boot or slippers.  Tie the laces together or rubber band each set of slippers.  Every pair counts!

Interested in Learning about 5A and 5B

At a special meeting of the Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education on August 23, the board decided to place two initiatives on the 2018 ballot:

  • mill levy override that would provide financial resources to support operations directly related to student learning and success
  • bond that would enable needed upgrades to our facilities

Read the resolutions and ballot language. If the two local measures pass, it is an increase in property taxes.

Additionally, there will be an amendment to the state constitution on the ballot in November, Amendment 73, that is a statewide effort to raise funds for PK-12 public education. If this passes, it is an income tax increase for those making over $150,000/year and "C" corporations.
